Chris Withrow

Chris believes in challenging the status quo in pursuit of both personal and professional excellence. He seeks to create opportunities for people to realize their potential for positive self-improvement.

Chris has been with the Mesa Police Department for seventeen years and currently serves as the Commander over the Tactical Team. He directs personnel and operations from SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, K-9 and works closely with Undercover Detectives, Organized Crime, US Marshall’s Violent Offender Unit, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Career Criminal Squad and the Gang Enforcement Unit.

Throughout his career, Chris has served in many positions within the police department including as a SWAT Operator, SWAT Team Leader, Proficiency Training Sergeant, and various other supervisory and teaching positions.

Chris serves as a mentor and coach across a full spectrum of experience levels, from senior executives to line-level police officers. His sense of loyalty and commitment to duty, as well as his understanding of leadership, make him an asset to his organization.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University. He is a graduate of FBI Command Leadership Institute as well as several other leadership certifications, to include the University of Arizona’s Eller Executive Education Public Sector Leadership.

Chris served in the United States Navy on active duty and as a member of the Navy SEALS for eight years before his career in law enforcement. He remained in the Naval Reserves for four years until taking up a government contracting position. Chris was the Naval Special Warfare Mentor Program Manager in the Southwest region for twelve years. His unique perspective and ability to prioritize objectives make him a sought-after leader in critical incidents and human development.
